PhD Position in Coordination Systems

Dynamical Coordination of optical fiber positioners

The Coordination and Interaction System Group (React) at EPFL has an open PhD position in Control and Coordination Systems.

The React Group is currently carrying out investigations on the dynamical coordination and collision-free trajectory generation for astrobots in collaboration with two other EPFL laboratories (astrophysics and robotics). In this framework, predictive and optimal control, as well as reactive approaches based on navigation functions are developed and implemented.

The main topic of the PhD will be related to the coordination of 2-DOF positioners taking simultaneously into account target assignment, trajectory generation, motion control, collision avoidance, as well as dynamical and mechanical coordination constraints.

The candidate should preferably hold a Master’s degree in a related field (e.g. in electrical or micro engineering), have experience in control and embedded systems, as well as interest for both methodological and empirical investigations. Fluency in English is required.

The successful candidate will be expected to publish research results, attend conferences and actively collaborate in the lab activities including interaction with master students and participation in teaching.

The PhD can start any time but preferably before September 2018.

Candidates have to apply and be accepted by either the EDEE or EDRS doctoral programme, in which Dr. Gillet is an affiliated PhD advisor.

To apply or request more information, please contact Dr. Denis Gillet, Head of the React Group.
